Barcelona

It’s been almost a week since I came home from Barcelona and I got asked like a hundred times “how was your trip?” I guess that’s how it goes; I mean I would do the same thing. Still, I never know what to say besides, great, good, fun and all the other adjectives to describe you had a fucking terrific time.

Here is my try of a recap, but be aware that this is coming out of my head right now and is not based on notes I took. I wanted to but I kind of forgot in 10 days of pure relaxing and doing whatever we wanted.

So for those who didn’t know I went to Barcelona with my dear roommate Annika on July 20th. The bus ride to the airport was medium to bad. There were kids (around 4-5 years old) sitting behind us. Yeah, no need to describe why we could not take a quick nap. Only one thing cheered us up: seeing our cute lecturer cross the street.

Out flight was a little delayed but we weren’t in a hurry so that didn’t bother us. When we finally hit Spanish ground I was relieved that there had been practically no turbulences. When we stepped out of the plane the air of thick hot summer hit us like a wall and it was about 10 or 11 pm. We were pretty thrilled about it, actually, since we assumed that meant 10 sunny days ahead of us. Then we took another bus ride to get into the city. It was 12am when we finally arrived at our hotel. The hotel turned out to be great. No nasty surprises or anything.

The next couple of days we went to the beach, the pool (rooftop of our hotel), The Picasso Museum, The Chocolate Museum, Park Güell and of course shopping (SHOES!!!). We always came back to have siesta and some kind of lunch (nuts, crackers, bread with hummus, etc.) in the afternoon. At night we went out to restaurants or bars.

Before we had left Germany we had tried to arrange a spot in Barcelona to couch surf, but unfortunately it hadn’t worked out. Nevertheless one guy contacted us to show us the city and some insider bars and stuff. So we met him Friday night (totally overdressed!). He showed us some cool bars and gave us some background on the different districts in the city (mainly around La Rambla). At last we went into a club, which was supposed to be “cool” but it was plain NOT! The average age of the people there was probably 30-35 and we did not fit in. We were dancing when a girl (or should I say woman?) came up to us and asked if we spoke English. And then she told as that she and her friends had bet whether we were American or British. I think we told her American but I thought it was hilarious. You can see we were definitely overdressed!

When Jorge (our guide) brought us back to the bus station we asked him if he knew a tapas bar we should go to (we LOVE tapas) and he gave us an address (it was actually very close to where we were at the moment). Next day we went to the restaurant he recommended. I will post a separate article with pictures about “Ciutat Comtal” but just so you know we went to the exact same restaurant two more times!

Result: We had a great time in Barcelona, ate the most amazing food and did not get sunburned (or at least not noteworthy). I want to go back again and if it’s just to eat!

Oh and we never heard of Jorge again :D.
